Umsuluzi has no "keep off the grass" policies and guests are encouraged to wanders through the tranquility of the busheld either by foot or bicycle and roam freely among the herds of non-threatening wildlife. Guest are not restricted to specific areas of the reserve and need not be accompanied by a guide, however should guided trails be desired our fully qualified guides would love to show you all aspects of the wild. Close encounters with herds of snorting wildebeest and magnificent sightings of the towering giraffe are among the many thrills within the perimeters of the reserve.

Umsuluzi Riverside Lodges' exciting new activity of rhino tracking is a must for any nature enthusiast eager to get up close and personal with one of natures largest mammals. Tracking is available on request and our experienced field guides will accompany you through the Weenen Nature Reserve in search of these spectacular animals.

Outside the fences of Umsuluzi, Riverside guests have the opportunity to experience the excitement of white water rafting the rapids of the mighty Tugela River or possibly to put to test their 4X4 driving skills on the rugged trails of neighboring farms. Make a day of it, take a picnic lunch and enjoy the experiences that the area has to offer.
